Finally, a face for the main character. Main characters, like their names and like project titles, can be a complete existential crisis, because you want them to be perfect and it’s almost impossible to get there.

Eventually what happens is you grow fond of one of your choices, go with it, and normally it’s the right choice. That’s also what’s happening with the project title, as we’re starting to settle with Myco. As for the main guy, I’m trying to get used to this bastard’s face, since all the other sketches were crap. Doesn’t mean it’s definitive, and I could touch up some details, but I’m quite okay with it now and I want to avoid the torment of eternal tweaking.

As for the other 2 pictures, the first one is your first patient, a Gnome who was out on an off-limits area, got his suit punctured and was infected by a symbiotic fungus. Now he has to feed it and take drugs to stop its growth until the end of his life. He hallucinates very frequently too, with the toxins permanently in his bloodstream.

The last picture is Alex, the security bot at the clinic, who tests you every morning and might get you fired some day.

Gnomes are individuals who gather mushrooms by their own means.

They’re mostly interested in mind-altering fungi, because those are the ones that sell at the highest prices. They deal illegally, because they conduct their own tests on newly found species, which are not approved by the Fungi Research and Administration. However, gnomes have a great advantage over the legal distribution, which is the huge variety of rare mushrooms they have available. Instead of farming and engineering mainstream substances like legal pharmacists, they venture way out into off-limits areas to get the wildest specimens.

They’re called gnomes because of the pointy caps they wear. The purpose of these is not only to freak people out, but also to make them look taller if a strange encounter with a creature happens to occur. They say there are dangerous mutant things in off-limits areas.
